About Us

Sunwood Farm is a residential community nestled in the gentle rolling countryside of Chester County, Pennsylvania. Setting itself apart from many other communities of single family homes, the developers of Sunwood were committed to preserving the country-like charm that characterized the region in times past. Thanks to that dedication,  visitors and residents alike continue to be attracted by Sunwood's welcoming atmosphere, open spaces, and natural beauty.

History

At the time the Continental Army was encamped at Valley Forge, The Thomas Pearl family owned the land. In 1928, the Hancock Family built the main house at Sunwood Farm.

Their stately home was a social landmark. Even as recently as the Spring of 1988, the home was selected as the prestigious Vassar Designer Show House. The mansion itself has been carefully preserved on a two acre site; in addition, the farm's stable/gatehouse ("Little Westhorpe'), a small cottage, pond, southernmost green space, and woods also remain as part of the overall subdivision plan.

The Community

Sunwood Farm is now a community of distinctive estate homes with classic architecture designed by some of the area's leading builders: BJ Drueding, Todd Pohlig, and Chip Vaughn. The success of the development was celebrated in 1990 when the Main Line Builders Association awarded Sunwood "Best Single Family Home Community of the Year," and again in 1991 when the same honor was bestowed by the Home Builders Association of Delaware and Chester Counties.

The developers created private cul-de-sacs wherever possible to provide maximum privacy and to eliminate drive-through traffic patterns. The homes themselves are finished with luxurious amenities and dramatic interiors. Interior living space ranges from approximately 3,100-5,000 sq. ft. Lot sizes range from approximately four-fifths to 1.3 acres. But perhaps the most distinctive features of Sunwood Farm are the natural beauty of its immediate surroundings coupled with its proximity to all the amenities that Chester and Montgomery Counties offer.

Major highways such as Routes 202 and 422, the Pennsylvania Turnpike, the Blue Route (Rte 476) and the Schuylkill Expressway (Rte 76) are just minutes away by car. Quick commuter service is provided by nearby SEPTA rail stops to Philadelphia, and Amtrak lines to Philadelphia, Washington, and New York. Also close at hand are the corporate centers of King of Prussia, Great Valley, and Blue Bell.

Nearby shopping centers include the nation's second largest mall, the Court and Plaza at King of Prussia, as well as smaller centers such as the Gateway Shopping Center and Exton Square Mall. Along Route 30 lie the charming and diverse towns of Philadelphia's Main Line, and to the west is Phoenixville, with its growing shopping, dining, and historic district.

And speaking of historic, none is more so than neighboring Valley Forge National Park just over one mile away. Here, visitors enjoy learning about the encampment and struggle of George Washington and his troops. The Park is open for tours, picnicking, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, and more. The Pickering Creek Reservoir and Marsh Creek are also nearby, for fishing, sailing or picnics.

Sunwood Farm has an active neighbors association, which sponsors annual picnics, parades, progressive dinners, game nights, holiday events, and socials. Sunwood is more than a collection of beautiful homes, it is a special place to live and one in which its residents take a great deal of pride.
